Once again, we've partnered with our friends at Hakata Ramen Bar in Bermondsey for a seasonal White Label Series beer: Hakata Pale Ale 4.9%.
This pale ale is designed to complement their spring/summer menu. Bursting with vibrant hop character, it showcases Sorachi Ace, Citra, and Columbus. Sorachi Ace—a unique Japanese hop variety developed in the 1970s—brings bright notes of lemon verbena on the nose, followed by delicate hints of coconut and dill on the palate. Citra and Columbus add further layers of citrus, balanced by resinous pine and a full, rounded mouthfeel.
It has to be said, the best place to enjoy this beer is in Hakata Ramen. Nestled in Bermondsey, their restaurant is a haven for fans of Japanese comfort food. From the signature Tonkotsu ramen to a selection of tasty small dishes, each crafted with care to ensure an unforgettable dining experience, which this beer aims to elevate even further.
Beneath the restaurant, they have a more intimate bar, where Tokyo dive-bar vibes mingle with a New York-style speakeasy. Here, premium Japanese-inspired cocktails and sake await, alongside a curated selection of Orbit Beers, including our Rice Lager and the new Pale Ale.
Ramen, once a cherished comfort food of Japan, has now become a global culinary phenomenon. At Hakata Ramen, they pay homage to this legacy, drawing inspiration from the southern Japanese island of Kyushu, the birthplace of Tonkotsu ramen. Their commitment to authenticity is unwavering, as is their support of local producers like Orbit Beers.
For those eager to recreate this pairing at home, Hakata Pale Ale is available from Thursday 19th May via the Orbit Beers webshop , promising to complement your homemade Japanese dishes. It will be on tap at the taproom from 22nd May, when we're launching the draft beer alongside tastings of craft sake from our friends at Kanpai brewery in Bermondsey: the UK’s first sake brewery, crafting British-style sakes using traditional Japanese techniques.
