Wednesday 8th October
Red Ale Keg and Cask Launch
We'll have the new Hakata Red Ale on cask on Wednesday 8th October, and we're pairing it with some delicious sake from Kanpai Brewery who are based in Bermondsey.
One of our brewers will be leading a tasting of the Sorachi Ace hop series, which includes the Red Ale, the Hakata Pale Ale, and the Rice Lager.
These three beers will also be available in flights for the evening, so you can try the different styles that use this unique Japanese hop.
If you have one of our locals cards you'll get a pint (keg or cask) on the house that evening.
Hakata Red Ale 4.9%:
Brewed together with our friends at Hakata restaurant in Bermondsey, this Red Ale was brewed to pair perfectly with Japanese cuisine, in particular, Ramen dishes. Using speciality grain, we adjusted the water profile to produce a brewing liquor high in carbonate and phosphoric acid, with a slight alkaline edge to complement wheat-based ramen noodles. The beer has a distinctive, unique characteristic from Sorachi Ace, a hop variety developed in Japan in the 1970s.
Deep red in colour, this hoppy ale has a malty, caramel base with an abundance of hop character. Sorachi Ace hops provide hints of coconut, lemon, dill, coriander, and a touch of oak, with the Citra hops delivering a hit of grapefruit citrus.
