Hakata Red Ale October 2025

Once again, we've partnered with our friends at Hakata Ramen Bar in Bermondsey for a seasonal White Label Series beer: Hakata Red Ale 4.9%.

This Red Ale is designed to complement their Autumn/Winter menu. The beer has a distinctive, unique characteristic from Sorachi Ace, a hop variety developed in Japan in the 1970s.  Deep red in colour, this hoppy ale has a malty, caramel base with an abundance of hop character. Sorachi Ace hops provide hints of coconut, lemon, dill, coriander, and a touch of oak, with the Citra hops delivering a hit of grapefruit citrus.

It has to be said, the best place to enjoy this beer is in Hakata Ramen. Nestled in Bermondsey, their restaurant is a haven for fans of Japanese comfort food. From the signature Tonkotsu ramen to a selection of tasty small dishes, each crafted with care to ensure an unforgettable dining experience, which this beer aims to elevate even further.

Beneath the restaurant, they have a more intimate bar, where Tokyo dive-bar vibes mingle with a New York-style speakeasy. Here, premium Japanese-inspired cocktails and sake await, alongside a curated selection of Orbit Beers, including Ivo Pale Ale, our Rice Lager and the new Red Ale.

Ramen, once a cherished comfort food of Japan, has now become a global culinary phenomenon. At Hakata Ramen, they pay homage to this legacy, drawing inspiration from the southern Japanese island of Kyushu, the birthplace of Tonkotsu ramen. Their commitment to authenticity is unwavering, as is their support of local producers like Orbit Beers.

For those eager to recreate this pairing at home, Hakata Red Ale is available from 8th October via the Orbit Beers webshop, promising to pair your homemade Japanese dishes. It will be on cask at the taproom from 13th October when we're launching the beer alongside tastings of craft sake from our friends at Kanpai brewery in Bermondsey: the UK’s first sake brewery, crafting British-style sakes using traditional Japanese techniques.

Join us for a tasting evening and a chance to explore different styles that use these unique Japanese hops.
